Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold has attempted to clear up some of the confusion regarding when PSN will -- or, as the case may be, won't -- be back online.

Speaking with VentureBeat, Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold has said that the May 31 date for PSN's return reported by many online outlets following an unfortunately-worded Bloomberg report is inaccurate. Seybold is keen to point out that there is no officially-announced estimate for when the service will be back up, and no new information as yet.

Bloomberg's report claimed that Sony spokesman Shigenori Yoshida said Sony's "plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged," but Seybold says no such date has yet been announced.

Seybold also dismisses claims from Cnet that Sony may have headed off another predicted attack from Anonymous over the weekend thanks to its report drawing attention to a new vulnerability.

"There is no accuracy to that report," said Seybold. "We're focused on ensuring the security of the network before bringing the services back online."

The official FAQ on the PSN outage has been updated to read "regarding the aim of the full restoration of PSN services by the 31st May: Restoration of Online Gamplay [sic] is the FIRST phase of the plan to restore the PSN."

Back to square one, then. PSN will be back... um... soon?
